Kragujevac Red Cross exists from 1876 - which means 125
years. Our Branch is one of the most organized and active Branches in the
Yugoslav Red Cross. In 2000, we had 50.858 members, gathered in 134 Primary
Unit (all parts of the town, factories, schools and other educational
institutions).
As part of our Health-Educational Activities in 2000. we
gave courses to 23.714 inhabitants of Kragujevac.
Our Red Cross has a Humanitarian pharmacy, as well. This
pharmacy covers 19 other R.C.Branches. It provides refugees, social cases
and voluntary Blood donors with necessary medicines, all free of charge.
Because of a very bad social position of huge number of
people in Kragujevac, our Red Cross helped during the year 2000. 69.023
persons, out of which 50.940 were local population. We would like to stress
especially our Soup Kitchen Program. Through this programme, more than 6.000
people were aided with cooked meals and lunch parcels. Also 5.000 children
coming from socially endangered families are provided with free meals in the
school kitchens.
We pay a big attention on providing and distributing food
for around 4.500 refugees from Bosnia and Croatia, and around 12.000 IDP ` s
from Kosovo
Despite all these problems Kragujevac Red Cross is most
known for its activities dedicated to children and existing for children.
The youth makes more than half of the total number of RC members. We spend a
lot of time working and playing with them, and organizing various health and
social-educational activities. Some of them are “Schools for RC youth”,
Summer schools, summer camps, creative workshops, Youth club, kindergarten,
playing workshop, etc.
Significant attention is paid to Institutional
Development, and various activities within this program. Kragujevac RC is
one of the 5 Dissemination Centers of the Yugoslav Red Cross. The activities
of this center are successfully realized in 35 other RC Branches in Central
Serbia.
Kragujevac is one of 11 YRC Regional Distribution
Centers, and covers 13 local RC Branches with humanitarian aid.
